PROJECT PROFILE

MooneePonds

Affectionately known as the Nonna and Yaya house, the renovation of this classic brown brick 1970s family home was a joy to design.

A young couple with a toddler, my clients are both of Italian heritage and were drawn to this home for the nostalgia and comfort it evoked. Every inch of the home was meticulously preserved. This house would have been the focus of many family dinners over the decades. Whilst the house boasted striking period features including vivid yellow glazed doors, tile floors and timber trims, everything was tired.

All the wetrooms were renovated to contemporary building standards in a style consistent with the period of the home.

With a desire to highlight as many original features as possible, the addition of timber floors and contemporary window furnishings brought warmth and softened the spaces.

Working with an old school electrician, a number of authentic Italian period light fittings, inherited by my clients, were lovingly restored and provide soft light and sculptural interest.

Working to a budget, I guided my clients on where to invest and how best to honour the original design intent.
